TRAIN WITH ME

Sundquist Classical Riding

Classical training is the steady development of both horse and rider over time.

In my work, we focus on building a strong, sound horse and a balanced, thoughtful rider. Lessons address the whole picture — from developing the horse’s back and strength, to improving the rider’s position, timing, and feel.

Each step builds on the one before it, so progress is clear and sustainable rather than rushed.

The goal is not simply to create a certain look, but to develop true balance, confidence, and partnership.

This work is patient and systematic. It does not rely on force or quick fixes.

Instruction is offered both in-person in Phoenix and online.

Kirsten Sundquist, Instructor/Trainer

In the Arena — Phoenix

For riders in the Phoenix area, instruction takes place in a focused, small-scale training environment grounded in the classical tradition.

Students of all ages are welcome — from young riders building foundations to adults refining long-term goals. Horses of many breeds and backgrounds are trained here, from green prospects to more experienced partners. The principles remain consistent: develop strength correctly, clarify communication, and build partnership over time.

Work in the arena includes:

• Private lessons for riders at all stages of experience
• Development of young and green horses
• Continuing education for established horses
• Rebuilding horses whose training has become tense, imbalanced, or rushed
• Rider position, balance, and coordination work
• Correct contact and back development
• Progressive preparation for competition when appropriate

Horses that have developed hollowness, resistance, or confusion from previous training can often benefit from a return to correct foundational work.

For those without a horse, a limited number of well-schooled lesson horses may be available, depending on suitability and scheduling.

All disciplines are welcome. What matters most is dedication to steady, thoughtful development.

The arena is intentionally small to preserve individual attention and quality of training.

Online Classical Instruction

For riders outside of Arizona — or for those who benefit from additional structure between in-person sessions — instruction is also available online.

Online training follows the same classical framework used in the arena.

The emphasis remains on steady development, correct biomechanics, and clear communication between horse and rider.

Work may include:

• Private video lesson review and detailed feedback
• Rider position and balance analysis
• Guidance in developing correct contact and back strength
• Structured progression within a larger training plan
• Support for riders rebuilding confidence or clarifying fundamentals

Online instruction works best for motivated riders who value thoughtful, step-by-step development and are willing to apply feedback consistently between sessions.

This format is not designed for quick corrections or shortcuts.

It is a structured extension of the same systematic work practiced in the arena.

Clinics

Clinics are available upon request.

These may be hosted at private facilities or barns seeking structured classical instruction.

Clinics focus on clear foundations, rider position, contact development, and systematic progression appropriate to each horse and rider combination.

Format may include:

• Private sessions
• Small group lessons
• Position and biomechanics workshops
• Theory discussions when appropriate

I can organize clinics around specific topics.

Inquiries regarding hosting or attending a clinic are welcome.

The Classical Framework

This training forms the foundation of the developing Way of the Centaur Academy — a structured curriculum integrating:

• Horse training
• Rider development
• Theoretical understanding
• Personal discipline and self-mastery

As the framework continues to take shape, more structured educational offerings will become available in the arena and online.
