My evaluation is guided by a six-phase framework I have developed over many years of teaching and training.
Rather than isolating a single symptom, I look at where the horse and rider are in their development, what capacities are already present, what is missing, and how the different parts of the system are influencing one another.
The goal is to understand the pattern as a whole and identify the next meaningful step.

My Approach
My approach begins with the foundations of riding that allow everything else to emerge.
In the horse, I first look at the horse's way of going. Is the horse forward with relaxation? Are the gaits true and rhythmic with a good tempo that allow correct posture—being truly over the back—to develop? Is the horse consistently on the bit and round? Is the horse stiff and/or crooked?
In the rider, I look at alignment to the classical seat, balance, and center of gravity. From there, I look at the use and timing of the aids: are they clear, independent and proportionate, or are they inadvertently creating the very response the rider is trying to correct?
Lateral work is an important part of this process—not simply as a set of movements, but as a way to reveal and develop balance, straightness, bend, responsiveness and the organization of the horse’s body.
Throughout, I am looking at the horse and rider together, trying to find where the pattern begins and what needs to change for something different to emerge.
